(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 230 calls for service during the previous week.
Domestic Disputes
Officers investigated six domestic disputes during the past week. No criminal offences occurred.
Impaired Drivers
On Friday June 3 officers received information that a male driving a green pick-up truck had struck a red van Raglan Street N Renfrew was possibly impaired. Officers attended the collision scene where the male driver was assessed by paramedics and transported to hospital. The green ford pick-up truck sustained severe damage to the front after being driven into the parked van. At the hospital the male failed an alcohol screening test. Further breath tests were performed and as a result Russell RUTTAN 81 of Renfrew was charged with driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 6. Provincial Constable Kevin Rebertz led the investigation.
On Sunday May 29 shortly after 5 am OPP officers received information about a possible impaired driver in the area of White Lake Road and Highway 17. A licence plate and description of the vehicle was provided and police patrolled and located the suspect vehicle on Vancourtland Street. The vehicle was stopped and the male driver was arrested after failing a roadside alcohol screening device. After further breath tests David MUNRO 31 of Arnprior was charged with driving over 80mgs, driving with an open container of alcohol and failing to surrender a driver’s licence. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on June 15. Provincial Constable Dave Peace investigated.
On May 29th, 2016 at approximately 3:26 pm Renfrew OPP officers were dispatched to a traffic complaint heading west-bound on Highway 17 towards Arnprior. Several calls were received about a possible impaired driver. When officers arrived at Highway 17 and McCallum Drive in McNab Braeside the suspect vehicle was stopped, along with several witnesses. The female driver of the vehicle was arrested for impaired driving. Following further breath tests at the detachment Marie PROULX 51 of Ottawa was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. She was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on June 15. Provincial Constable Carlvin Burgins investigated.
Fraud Warning
Residents are being alerted that fraudsters may be calling them, pretending to represent The Canada Revenue Agency. They are claiming the person owes back taxes and they are going to be arrested or their homes will have a lien placed on them. They are aggressive and rude. Please report these calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or online at www.antifraudcentre.ca
Marine Safety
Many people will be boating in the coming months and the OPP would like to remind those people to make safety their first consideration prior to going out on the water. Many boaters do not have the minimum required safety equipment on board their boat. The requirements change depending on the boat length and type. Don’t let a leisurely day on the water become a tragedy. Prepare your boat ahead of time for a summer of fun boating for everyone. Break and Enter
On Saturday June 4 at 1pm OPP officers were notified that a beak and enter had taken place sometime overnight at the Boathouse Restaurant located at Calabogie Peaks and Resort. The front door had been forced open. Nothing appeared to have been taken. Provincial Constable Patrick O’Connor is investigating.
