(RENFREW, ON) – The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 238 calls for service during the previous week, including animal complaints, domestic disputes, fires and impaired drivers.
Youth Reported Killing Seagulls
The OPP are appealing for witnesses to come forward after responding to reports of a youth killing seagulls with a golf club. The youth was in a parking lot across from Renfrew Collegiate Institute (RCI) on Thursday June 16 at 1:30 in the afternoon. At least one dead seagull was located. There is a suspect in the case, but if no witnesses come forward no further action can be taken. Provincial Constable Jeff Cassidy is leading the investigation. Aggressive Driving Enforcement
The OPP will be increasing patrols and strictly enforcing the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario in regards to aggressive driving behavior after receiving several complaints. Several streets in McNab Braeside Township seem to be attracting speeders, people not stopping at stop signs, not sharing the road with pedestrians and cyclists. Areas of concern are Moore Street, Fairhaven Place, Kippen Road, Campbell Drive, Braeloch Road and River Road. Aggressive driving includes speeding, not stopping at stop signs, failing to signal lane changes, not providing cyclists a minimum distance of 1 metre when passing, and failing to yield to pedestrians. If these actions describe your driving consider changing your behavior to avoid being ticketed.
OPP Accepting Auxiliary Unit Applications

Domestic Disputes
Renfrew OPP officers investigated 12 domestic disputes during the past week. In separate cases two females were each charged with assault and domestic mischief. No other criminal offences occurred.
Impaired Drivers
The OPP in Renfrew laid charges against 5 people in the past week for impaired driving. All investigations began after concerned citizens contacted the OPP to report the crime. No one was injured in any of the instances.
On June 20 at 11 pm officers attended Silver Lake Road for a three vehicle collision. One driver attempted to back out of a driveway, struck a vehicle and pushed it into a third vehicle. The male driver was arrested for impaired driving. Following breath tests at the detachment Richard BROWN 48 of Greater Madawaska Township was charged with impaired driving, driving over 80mgs, and dangerous driving. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 20.
On June 21 at 7pm officers received information about a possible impaired driver. The suspect vehicle was located on Mountain Chute Road and the male driver was arrested. Following breath tests at the detachment John STUBINSKY 41 of Greater Madawaska Township was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 20.
On June 22 at approximately 12:50 am officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Calabogie Road in Greater Madawaska Township. The female driver had been drinking. Following breath tests at the detachment Kaylie BURNETT 26 of Renfrew was charged with impaired driving. She was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 20.
On June 24 at 6:53 pm officers received information about a possible impaired driver leaving a French fry stand in Cobden and travelling on Highway 17 eastbound. The suspect vehicle was stopped and the male driver had been drinking and was arrested. Following breath tests at the detachment Gilles DORE 68 of Gatineau was charged with impaired driving and driving over 80mgs. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on July 20.
On June 26 at 12:35 am a possible impaired driver was reported to the OPP. The vehicle was speeding and swerving into oncoming traffic. The suspect vehicle was located and stopped in the town of Renfrew. The female driver had been drinking and was arrested after failing a roadside alcohol screening test. Following breath tests at the detachment Angel BURGESS 37 of White Water Region Township was charged with impaired driving and care or control of a motor vehicle over 80mgs. She will appear in court in Renfrew on July 20.
