THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLES AND BREAK AND ENTERS INTO CABINS
(RED LAKE, ON) – On July 31, 2015, the Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a stolen vehicle from a local business sometime overnight. A short while later a report of a motor vehicle collision on the Nungesser Road was received followed by multiple reports of Break and Enters into cabins at Coli Lake. In connection with the Break and Enters, an Off-Road Vehicle was reported stolen. The investigation in to those responsible is ongoing. Anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to contact the local detachment by calling 1-888-310-1122 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
IMPAIRED DRIVING – EAR FALLS
On August 2, 2015, an officer from the Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was traveling on South Bay Road, northeast of Ear Falls.
Police initiated a vehicle stop after an oncoming vehicle failed to dim its lights and determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and transported to the Ear Falls OPP Detachment.
Liberty Louis THERRIEN, age 49, of Fort Frances, has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive over 80 Milligrams contrary to Sections 253 (a) and (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. THERRIEN is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Red Lake on August 27, 2015 to answer to the charges.
ONGOING MISCHIEF AT GOLDEN LEARNING CENTRE
The Red Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is investigating ongoing mischief and damage to property in and around the Golden Learning Centre in Balmertown. Early Years Staff have found items moved in the morning as well as damage to items. Anyone with information on this crime is encouraged to contact the local detachment by calling 1-888-310-1122 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000. If neighbours notice any type of suspicious activity in the evening or overnight, they are encouraged to call and report it at 1-888-310-1122 while it is occurring.
IMPAIRED DRIVING – EAR FALLS
On August 7, 2015, an officer from the Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was conducting radar on Highway 105 south of Ear Falls. A vehicle stop was initiated with a vehicle driving noticeably slower than other traffic. Upon speaking with the driver, the police officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. A roadside demand was made of the driver which he subsequently failed. As a result, the driver was arrested and taken to Ear Falls for further tests.
Steve Davis, age 44, of Ear Falls, has been charged with Drive over 80 Milligrams and Impaired Driving contrary to Sections 253 (a) and (b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. DAVIS is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Red lake on October 1, 2015 to answer to the charges.
FAIL TO STOP FOR POLICE
On August 8, 2015, an officer from the Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police was on patrol on Highway 105 south of Ear Falls. The officer initiated a vehicle stop in relation to speeding. The driver failed to stop when signalled to and accelerated away from the police cruiser. The vehicle was located abandoned a short distance away. As a result of the subsequent investigation, the suspect was identified and an arrest warrant sought.
Timothy NEWBY, age 37, of Ear Falls is charged with Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 333.1, Flight from Police contrary to Section 249.1(1), Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to Section 249 (1)(a) and Drive while Disqualified contrary to Section 259(4) all of the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in Kenora court on September 3, 2015.
ILLEGAL HUNTING
On August 10, 2015, officers from the Red Lake/Ear Falls Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police received a report of an injured bear in the vicinity of Howey Street in Red Lake. Officers attended and searched the area for the bear, but it was not located, nor was any further reports of an injured bear received. An investigation into the incident is underway.
