For the month of April, members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service, Chatham-Kent Fire Department and Medavie EMS will be wearing green ribbons on their uniforms in an effort to raise awareness of Organ and Tissue Donation. In addition to wearing the pins, green ribbons will be visible on marked emergency vehicles, large green ribbons will be affixed to all three emergency services headquarters and an Organ Donation flag will be flying in front of the Economic Development Building on Grand Avenue West in Chatham.

Man Charged with Impaired Driving CK15008803
The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man for impaired driving following a two vehicle collision in Chatham.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m. yesterday, the man was driving over the Third Street Bridge when he side swiped another vehicle. Both drivers stopped and agreed to pull into a nearby parking lot to exchange information. Instead the man drove away. The driver was able to obtain the man’s licence plate and contacted police to report the collision.
Around 5:20 p.m. an officer on general patrol observed the man leaving the Walmart parking lot. The officer initiated a traffic stop by activating her emergency lights and sirens. The man turned his signal on and began to pull over when all of a sudden he drove back onto the roadway and continued driving. The officer followed the man until he pulled into his driveway on Pioneer Line.
The man immediately exited his vehicle and was met by the officer. Through investigation, the officer believed the man was operating his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody. The man was transported to police headquarters for breath tests. The officer further learned that this was the third time the man had been arrested for impaired driving in the last year.
The 51-year-old Chatham Township man has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to stop for police, impaired driving, operating a motor vehicle with no insurance and knowingly having a false insurance card. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
Intoxicated Woman in Wallaceburg CK15008815
Around 8:30 p.m. last night, officers responded to a restaurant on James Street in Wallaceburg in regards to an unwanted patron.
A 51-year-old Walpole Island woman was found to be intoxicated. She was taken into custody for her own safety as she was unable to care for herself. The woman has been charged with being intoxicated in a public place. She will be released when sober.

Last night, officers conducted RIDE spot checks in Chatham and Blenheim.
A total of 90 motorists were stopped with no infractions being observed.
