(ASHFIELD-COLBORNE-WAWANOSH, ON) – A 24-year-old from North Huron is facing a number of criminal charges following an incident that took place on September 16, 2017.
Shortly after 6:00 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers received information from an off-duty police officer that a stolen Chevrolet Silverado had just been observed traveling westbound on Harriston Road at a dangerous speed. Officers began patrolling for the vehicle and a little while later a different officer spotted the suspect vehicle traveling southbound on London Road forcing vehicles off of the roadway.
Officers strategically followed and a short distance away a Huron OPP officer laid a tire deflation device (spike belt) out across the roadway on Donnybrook Line. The suspect vehicle ultimately drove over the spike belt and within a couple kilometres the vehicle became disabled. At that point the suspect fled on foot into a nearby bush lot.
Officers contained the area and with the assistance of West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) and an OPP Canine unit police tracked the male to a cabin where he was taken into custody without incident.
Upon further investigation police verified the Chevrolet Silverado had been stolen from Howick. In addition, police recovered over $4,800 in stolen property inside the pickup truck.
Scott ADAMSON, 24 years of age from North Huron has been charged with the following offences:
· Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
· Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
· Possession of Stolen Property – Over $5,000
· Possession of Stolen Property – Under $5,000 (3 counts)
· Break, Enter & Theft
· Mischief Under $5,000
He has since been released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for October of 2017.
