Prince Edward OPP Press Releases

(PRINCE EDWARD, ON) – Officers from the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to 105 calls for service during the long weekend. Those calls occurred between Thursday April 13th, 2017 at 4:00 pm until Tuesday April 18th, at 8am. OPP also were active in traffic enforcement initiatives over the weekend, laying over 70 charges under the Highway Traffic Act. The following occurrences were of note:

IMPAIRED DRIVER

On April 15th at approximately 10:00 PM, OPP initiated a vehicle stop on a vehicle that was being driven erratically. Officers determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol before driving. A roadside test was conducted and the driver registered a fail on the device. 29 year old Katelyn BURKAS of Kingston is charged with Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. Her driver’s license was suspended for 90 days. She is due to appear in Provincial Court of Justice, Picton Ontario on May 10th, 2017.

SHOPLIFTING

On April 16th, 2017 at approximately 3:50PM, OPP was called to The Hamlet Variety Store in Consecon, Ontario in response to a theft call. Officers attended and investigated, determining that a young man had stolen approximately $60 worth of liquor from the store. Charged with Theft Under $5000, Fail to Comply with a Recognizance, and Fail to comply with Probation, is 21 year old Jordan James CROSS of Quinte West. The man is due to appear in the Provincial Court of Justice, Picton Ontario on May 3rd, 2017.

ASSAULT WITH A WEAPON

On April 16th, 2017 at approximately 10:00 PM, OPP was called to a residence on Main Street in Wellington in response to a neighbor dispute. An investigation was undertaken and officers determined that 29 Year old Shane CORBIN of Wellington would be charged with Assault with a Weapon and Mischief Under $5000. He is due to appear in the Provincial Court of Justice on May 31st, 2017.

POLICE ASSISTANCE

On April 17th, 2017 at approximately 9:00 AM OPP was called to assist with a male who was distraught. Officers attended and assisted the male who was experiencing crisis. The 51 year old man was taken to hospital for medical treatment. There were no charges laid in this matter.
