Press Release – 27 October 2014 to 02 November 2014

October 27, 2014

During the early morning hours of October 27, 2014, a lone male wearing a mask and armed with a handgun entered the McDonalds Restaurant located at 278 Goderich Street, Port Elgin, and demanded money from an employee. The male received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store.

The male suspect is described as wearing all black with a Halloween mask disguising his face.

The Saugeen Shores Police responded to the call with the Ontario Provincial Police Canine, Emergency Response Team and the Tactical Response Units providing assistance in searching the area. The suspect was not located.

The victim received minor injuries as a result of the robbery.

The incident remains under investigation and the Saugeen Shores Police Service is requesting anyone with information to contact the Saugeen Shores Police Service at 519-832-9200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

At approximately 12:50pm, police received a complaint about a suspicious person walking on Bricker Street. The person was located by police and found to be intoxicated. Investigation revealed that he was on release conditions to abstain from the consumption of alcohol. The male, age 59, was taken to the police station to sober up and was charged with failing to comply with his conditions.

At 5:00pm, police attended at a building struck by lightning on High Street in Southampton. Police remained on scene until the fire department arrived. No fire was detected.

October 28, 2014

Police received a complaint of an assault that occurred at a house party in Southampton on October 24th. The victim, a young female, age 16, was pulled to the ground and punched resulting in facial injuries. A 17 year old female was charged with assault.

October 30, 2014

A 4’ pine tree was stolen from the property on the north side of the United Church on Bruce Street. The property is owned by the United Church.

October 31, 2014

At 6:00pm, an off-duty police officer observed a male jumping on the hood of a moving motor vehicle. The vehicle took evasive action to dislodge the male and the male rolled off the vehicle and narrowly missed being run over by the rear tire. Police located the involved persons and investigation revealed the incident was part of a domestic dispute. The male was charged by police with mischief in regards to a cell phone that was damaged earlier in the dispute and with failing to comply with a probation order.

November 1, 2014

Shortly after midnight, police were dispatched to a licenced establishment on Goderich Street in regards to a male who was refusing to leave. Police officers attended and located an intoxicated male. The male was arrested and taken to the police station. He was charged with Being Intoxicated in a Public Place and with Failing to Leave Premise when Directed.

At 2:30am, police observed a vehicle driving erratically on the grass shoulder on Pierson Avenue. At one point the vehicle crossed the center of the road and the police cruiser had to take evasive action in order to avoid a head on collision. The vehicle was stopped and the driver exhibited signs of impairment. He was arrested and taken to the police station for breath tests. Breath test results were 110 and 120 mgs of alcohol. The legal limit is 80. Jacob Sachan, age 27 of Kincardine Township has been charged with Driving while impaired, Drive Over the legal limit and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
