Polymer Bank Notes

(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County detachment is reminding you about the new polymer twenty dollar bank note that will be introduced and in circulation as of today, followed by the new ten and five dollar notes by the end of 2013.

The polymer notes have leading-edge security features and are more secure. They are both easy to check, hard to counterfeit, more durable and are expected to last at least 2.5 times longer before needing to be replaced.

The polymer bank notes came to be due to the dramatic increase in counterfeiting, which hit its peak in 2004. The polymer bank notes combine transparency, holography and other sophisticated security elements.

In just three easy steps of looking, feeling and flipping, you will be able to detect the notes authenticity.

The Norfolk County OPP is encouraging you to become familiar with the new bank notes and all of their security features. Visit the Bank of Canada’s website to learn more about polymer bank notes and their innovative security features at www.bankofcanada.ca
