(NORFOLK COUNTY, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment along with the Canadian Coast Guard, Norfolk County Fire Services and Norfolk County Paramedics responded to Long Point Bay, Lake Erie, Ontario after receiving calls of a boat in distress.
On Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at approximately 6:30 pm, police were contacted after receiving calls from a boat operator advising that their vessel was taking on water.
Investigation revealed that three males 48, 53 and 54 years or age, were out on Lake Erie near Little Rice Bay. The 16 foot vessel was making its way back to shore when a two meter wave came over the bow causing the vessel to sink.
All three males ended up in the water and were observed floating by a nearby fishing vessel. The males were subsequently picked up and were safely transported to back to shore.
“No injuries were reported as a result of this incident and police would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that assisted in safely bringing all three individuals safely back to shore. We would also like to remind all boating enthusiasts to always wear their life jackets and to prepare for that day out on the water,†comments Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP Detachment.
