POLICE INVESTIGATION INTO 1987 FOUND HUMAN REMAINS CONTINUES

(WEST REGION HEADQUARTERS, ON) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is continuing to investigate an incident of found human remains that were recovered in a marsh area near Mitchell’s Bay on March 23, 1987.

The skeletal remains were found in Mitchell’s Bay (Lake St. Clair) at Lot 8, Concession 12, Dover Township, near Wallaceburg, Ontario. The victim has not yet been identified.

An autopsy of the remains determined that the cause of death was drowning. A craniofacial approximation has been completed and may assist in identifying this person.

Investigation has indicated that the remains belong to a black male between 23 and 27 years old with a slight build. He would have been 152 – 170 cm (5’ – 5’7”) tall. Clothing found with the remains includes a shirt, blue jeans, size 8 “Winner” blue/grey running shoes with Velcro fasteners, and sport socks with a red and white stripe.

“The OPP never closes its files on unidentified victims,” says Detective Inspector Hillman, the Criminal Investigation Branch case manager. “Our investigative team is confident that someone holds a key piece of information that will help us solve this case.
