Police Investigate Hate Crime In Exeter

(SOUTH HURON, ON) – Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is calling on the public for assistance to help solve a mischief in Exeter that appears to be motivated by hatred.

On Saturday, March 31, 2018 Huron OPP received a call from an Exeter resident that reported someone had used a sharp object to gouge deep scratches into the paint of his vehicle that had been parked in his laneway on Orchard Street.

Upon viewing the vehicle the investigating officer noted nearly every vehicle panel was damaged with deep scratches and swirl marks. Also, scratched into the paint on all four sides of the vehicle was an ethnic slur.

Police believe this crime occurred sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on March 31, 2018. Police are investigating this mischief as a hate/bias motivated crime.
