Police Cruiser Struck – Chad WRIGHTLY Charged

(Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a complaint of a vehicle doing burn-outs just after midnight early Sunday morning.

Police located the 1966 Chevrolet Malibu on King Street in the Village of Havelock in the midst of conducting a burn-out. Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, only to have it collide with the cruiser and flee the scene. The vehicle was followed to Matheson Street where it was abandon by the driver.

Chad WRIGHTLY (age 39) of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen, ON was later arrested and charged under the provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada:

Dangerous operation of a vehicle

Flight while pursued by police

Fail to stop at the scene of a collision

Stunt driving in relation to the burn-out (Highway Traffic Act offence)

The accused is scheduled to appear in Peterborough Provincial Court on August 6, 2015.
