(Selwyn Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received numerous calls to investigate door to door sales persons in Bridgenorth yesterday between 12:00pm and 1:30pm.
Salespersons with a company called ‘Hamilton Tech Drive’ attempting to sell ADT alarm systems door to door in the Bridgenorth area. Residents described the males as aggressive and readily came inside people’s homes. The OPP want to remind Peterborough County residents it is not a safe practice to allow strangers into your home. If a sales person becomes aggressive, simply close the door and call police.
The Peterborough County OPP can offer a few tips to avoid being the victim of a fraud or scam:
If you are in the market for a service, source the company yourself. Ask friends, family or neighbour about legitimate local companies. Don’t wait for someone to come to your door to offer services.
Read on-line reviews about the company. If you uncover more negative than positive comments, pass on the service.
Be wary of ‘limited time offers’. Anyone who does not allow you time to do your research is not worth dealing with.
If the price is too good to be true……it is!
