POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR MALE THAT FLED R.I.D.E CHECK

(MACHAR, TWP) On August 11, 2013 at approximately 3:30pm, police from the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a R.I.D.E program (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) on Eagle Lake Road and Municipal Road, in Machar Township.

An eastbound vehicle approached the R.I.D.E program but quickly stopped and turned around to avoid police. Police attempted to follow and stop the vehicle however the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed and police discontinued their pursuit.
A short time later police discovered the vehicle, a grey minivan in the ditch, one kilometer west of Pike Road on Eagle Lake Road, and saw a male run into the bush.

The Ontario Provincial Police North East Region Canine Unit and Emergency Response Unit assisted in looking for the male.

Police have yet to locate the male, but are continuing with their investigation and at this time believe the suspect has left the area. The Ontario Provincial Police would like to thank Machar Township residents for their continued assistance and patience.

Anyone with information about this crime or any other crime is asked to call their local Police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
