Plane Crashes Shortly After Take Off

(Douro-Dummer Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were dispatched to assist at a plane crash and fire around 2:00 pm this afternoon.

The 1974 Cessna 180 single engine floatplane departed from the Gilchrist Bay area of Stoney Lake. The pilot experienced problems shortly after takeoff and crashed into a heavily wooded area south of Peterborough County Road 6. The pilot, a 67 year old male from Douro-Dummer Township, managed to climb out of the wreckage before it caught fire.

Remarkably, the pilot only sustained minor injuries and was transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) for treatment.
