(TOWNSHIP OF GEORGIAN BLUFFS, ON) – On Saturday, August 24, 2013, at approximately 5:49 p.m., Grey County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a plane crash in the vicinity of Concession 24, in the Township of Georgian Bluffs.
Police, Inter-Township Fire Department and Grey County Emergency Services (EMS) responded to the area and located the pilot, Daniel MERISCH, uninjured.
MERISCH, age 71, of Owen Sound, Ontario was flying his single engine, Glassair Super II FT, plane back to the Billy Bishop Airport in Owen Sound, when the engine failed, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing. The plane crash landed into a hardwood bush north of Concession 24. Although the plane was severely damaged, the cockpit was intact and the pilot was able to exit the plane and walk out of the bush to the road.
The Navigation Canada Control Centre and the Transport Safety Board were notified.
