Pickup Collides With Runaway Buggy

(MORRIS-TURNBERRY, ON) – On October 22, 2013 at 9:00 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a collision between a horse and buggy and a Chevrolet pickup truck. Police learned the 39 year old driver of the horse and buggy was travelling on Belmore Line between Salem Road and Howick-Turnberry Road when he stopped to inspect his lantern. His horse inadvertently responded to a command that was given to another nearby horse prompting the horse to bolt away. The horse and buggy now without a driver, took off heading southbound on Belmore Line. A northbound Chevrolet pickup truck collided with the buggy causing heavy damage to the buggy and moderate damage to the pickup truck. The horse escaped injury.
