(SOUTHERN GEORGIAN BAY, ON) – Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been enforcing area roads with a cruiser equipped with cameras and a computer to scan licence plates to detect driving violations. This cruiser is referred to as an Automatic Licence Plate Recognition Vehicle (ALPR) vehicle.
On December 4, 2016 at 7:45 p.m. an officer stopped a vehicle on Dunlop Street in Penetanguishene when alerted that the registered owner is a suspended driver. Further investigation found that the driver was the registered owner. The 2006 ford F-150 was towed and the driver Peter GRENIER (age 47) of Oro-Medonte Township ON was charged with:
Driving while under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Drive Motor Vehicle – No Currently Validated Permit contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic act
Owner Operated Motor Vehicle on a Highway- No Insurance contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Penetanguishene on January 19, 2017
