Pervert Alert – Young Girl Approached On Way Home From School

(TRENTON, ON) – On October 19, 2016 officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Quinte West detachment responded to a report of a young female walking home at approximately 2:45pm, from school on Byron Street in Trenton, when a pickup truck stopped, the lone male driver exited the vehicle and asked the female to come over to him.

The female did not communicate with the male but ran to a place of safety. The unknown male party did not attempt to follow the female. Police were contacted shortly afterwards.

The vehicle was described as a black pickup truck with a grey cap and large side mirrors.

The driver is described as a white male, approx. 40 years of age with a bald spot on the top of his head. The male had blonde/brownish coloured hair that was bushy on the sides and a goatee type beard.

OPP would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to have conversations with your children about:

not speaking to people that are not known to them,

ensure your kids know how to contact you at work or on your cellphone

keep the door locked and not open the door to talk to anyone if they are home alone

· Remind your children it’s OK to say NO to anything that makes them feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused and teach your children to tell you if anything or anyone makes them feel this way.

· Teach your children to check in with you if there is a change of plans.

· Teach your children to never approach a vehicle, occupied or not, unless they know the owner and are accompanied by a parent, guardian, or other trusted adult.

· Practice “what if” situations and ask your children how they would respond. “What if you fell off your bike and you needed help? Who would you ask?”
