(NAPANEE, ON) – Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit (Project “P”) and the Napanee OPP Crime Unit have arrested and charged a Belleville man following a one week online luring investigation.
On April 21, 2015 the Napanee OPP Detachment received a complaint from a parent of a child. As a result of this complaint, an online investigation was commenced by police to identify the individual. On April 28 2015 a Belleville man attended an establishment in the Town of Napanee to meet the child. The man was subsequently arrested and police seized a cellular telephone pertinent to the investigation.
On April 28, 2015, police charged Walter Robert MELBOURNE, 58 years old, of Belleville Ontario with two counts of Luring a Child on the Internet.
The accused was remanded into custody attended a bail hearing on April 29, 2015. The accused was released with conditions. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee, Ontario on June 2, 2015.
The investigation is continuing.
