Pedestrian Succumbs To Injuries After Being Struck By Motorcycle

(CALEDON, ON) – On Friday, May 20, 2016 at approx. 11:53 am, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. The collision was located on Airport Road north of King Street.

The road was closed for several hours between King Street and Castlederg Side Road while the OPP’s Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene to provide assistance with the investigation. Currently, the road has been re-opened.

The motorcycle was travelling southbound on Airport Road when the motorcyclist made contact with a pedestrian who was apparently crossing the highway. The pedestrian, Suzana KRUMPOLEC, 84, of Caledon was initially transported from the scene by EMS with life threatening injuries, but succumbed to her injuries while en route to the hospital. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries in the collision.

The collision investigation is on-going.

As the warm weather falls upon us, we shall begin to see more motorcycles out on our roads. Members of the Caledon Detachment of the OPP would like to remind the residents of Caledon that when a motorcycle is in motion, a driver of an automobile may be unable to receive as much information about movement and speed due to the narrowness of a motorcycle and given that a motorcycle only has a single head light. It is important to be mindful that a motorcycle can be less exposed on the roadway, particularly in relation to depth and speed perception as a result of a motorcycle being smaller in size (principally from the front) when compared to automobiles.

With that being said, please be mindful of your driving this long weekend and help keep all Ontarians safe.

Members of the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are committed to public safety, delivering proactive and innovative policing in partnership with our communities.
