Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle – Driver Left Scene Prior to Police Arrival

On Friday November 15th, 2013 just after 6:00PM, Owen Sound Police and Paramedics responded to the intersection of 8th Street East and 3rd Avenue East for a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle.

The 43 year old male pedestrian was crossing westbound on 8th St.E at 3rd Ave.E. on the south side of the intersection. A vehicle travelling westbound on 8th St.E, turned southbound onto 3rd Ave.E and struck the victim in the crosswalk area, while making the left turn. The driver of that vehicle stopped to check on the well being of the victim and stayed until Paramedics arrived. The driver subsequently left the scene prior to Police arrival. Witnesses advised the vehicle involved was an older model light coloured Jeep Grand Cherokee, and provided an excellent description of the male driver.

The pedestrian was transported to Grey Bruce Health Services (Owen Sound) by Paramedics. He suffered minor leg injuries and is expected to be treated and released from hospital.

Police need to speak the driver of the Jeep and are encouraging him, to contact the
investigating officer, Cst. Peddle #175, or the on-duty supervisor at the
Owen Police Service, 519-376-1234.
