PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY PASSENGER TRAIN

(THAMES CENTRE, ON) – A young female pedestrian has been transported to hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries after being struck by a passenger train west of Rebecca Road in the Municipality of Thames Centre.

On March 28, 2014 at approximately 2:06 p.m. Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Thames Centre Fire and Middlesex-London Emergency Medical Services responded to a collision involving a teenage pedestrian and a westbound Via passenger train. The collision occurred along the rail line approximately one quarter mile west of the rail crossing at Rebecca Road. There were no injuries to any passengers on board the train.

Police are in the preliminary stages of the investigation. Although the train is not currently blocking the train crossing, the train crossing lights remain activated at the Rebecca Road crossing. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find an alternate route to their destination.
