PEDESTRIAN HIT BY SNOWMOBILE – One Airlifted To Hospital

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – City of Kawartha Lakes Ontario Provincial Police Detachment (OPP) is currently investigating a serious collision that took place on Balsam Lake near Grand Island, Bexley Township Ontario. On February 22, 2014 at 6:45 pm a 40 year male from Fenelon Township was walking on the ice from Grand Island to the mainland when he was unintentionally struck by a snowmobile causing life-threatening injuries. The snowmobile operator was a friend of the injured male and was attempting to locate him on the lake at the time of the collision. The injured male was transported to Ross Memorial Hospital by land ambulance and later air lifted to a Toronto area hospital. The collision is still under investigation and charges have not been laid at this time.
