PEDESTRIAN FALLS FROM HIGHWAY 401 OVERPASS

(PORT HOPE, ON) – On October 29, 2014 at 12:20 pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a call regarding a female who had fallen from the Cranberry Road overpass into a ‘live lane’ of the highway.

The female was assisted by motorists and was not struck by any vehicles. She was airlifted to a Toronto area trauma centre with serious injuries.

Highway 401 was closed to westbound traffic for a brief period of time while investigators attempted to determine the cause of the fall.

The results of the investigation have led police to believe that this was accidental in nature while attempting to take photographs from the overpass.

As of 2:40pm all lanes of the highway were re-opened.
