Shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6th, 2015 an adult male was walking along the sidewalk on 4th Avenue East near the intersection of 13th Street, and passed by a man that was sitting at the corner crying. The pedestrian, who had said nothing to the crying man, was shouted and sworn at by the obviously upset male who was demanding to know “What are you looking at”? After continuing on his way and ignoring the person, the man rushed upon the pedestrian from behind, punching him several times in the head resulting in a nose bleed and torn shirt.
As the pedestrian fled for his safety, a friend of the aggressor restrained and led him away. A short time later police were called when the aggressor and his friend became embroiled in a fight against each other on the roadway. During the exchange a nearby resident’s barbeque was destroyed by the aggressor.
Police attended and affected an arrest without further incident. While conducting a search following the arrest, a small quantity of marihuana was located upon the 20-year old culprit, who faces charges of assault, mischief under $5000, and possession of a controlled substance. The accused hails from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and is detained for a bail hearing. Alcohol abuse was a contributing factor.
This is an isolated incident which does not place the community in further jeopardy.
