(ESPANOLA, ON)- On October 16, 2015, officers from the Espanola Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were on regular patrol duties on Highway 17, Hallam Township, west of Espanola.
At 11:48 p.m., a vehicle travelling westbound on Highway 17 was observed to be travelling at a high rate of speed and officers conducted a traffic stop.
As a result of the investigation, police determined the driver had been consuming alcohol and that there was open liquor inside the vehicle.
Paulette ROY, 51 years of age, from Kitchener, was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Driving Motor Vehicle with More Than 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code.
2. Speeding, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
3. Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act.
ROY’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven (7) days.
The accused will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola, on November 3, 2015, to answer to her charges.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
