(ESPANOLA, ON)- On October 26, 2015, the Espanola Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol on Highway 17, in the Town of Webbwood. At approximately 11:42 p.m., a westbound vehicle was observed driving by with what appeared to be extensive damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle.
As a result of the observations, officers initiated a traffic stop and determined that the driver had consumed alcohol and that there was open liquor inside the vehicle.
Paul GUTHRIE, 41 years of age, from Springwater Township, was arrested and charged with the following:
1. Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle, contrary to the Criminal Code
2. Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to the Criminal Code
3. Driving while disqualified, contrary to the Criminal Code
4. Driving while under suspension X2, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
5. Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
6. Fail to remain, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
GUTHRIE’s driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven (7) days.
The accused was held in custody and will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury, on October 27, 2015 to answer to his charges.
The OPP is reminding motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol or drug consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
