Paul COOK – Drunk Driving

On Thursday August 17, 2016 at approximately 5:48pm Haliburton Highlands Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a driving complaint on Highway 118 in Minden Hills. A Haliburton Highlands officer located the vehicle on Highway 118 and conducted a vehicle stop.

During the investigation it was determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol. The driver registered a “fail” on the approved screening device. As a result the driver was arrested and taken for further testing.

The 58 year old male driver Paul COOK of Gravenhurst, Ontario has been charged with:

• Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

The accused also received an automatic 90 day driver’s licence suspension and his motor vehicle has been impounded. He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Minden on October 5, 2016

The Haliburton Highlands OPP is reminding motorists that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.
