(GUELPH-ERAMOSA TOWNSHIP, ON) -On October 20, 2014 at approximately 10:32 p.m., Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were conducting a R.I.D.E check at the intersection of Wellington Road 124 and Watson Road, Guelph-Eramosa Township. A Dodge sport utility vehicle (SUV) entered the check-point location but failed to stop for police and nearly struck an officer.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but it continued on. Police followed for more than 30 minutes on various roads within Wellington County and at one point briefly entering Dufferin County.
A tire deflation device was deployed allowing the vehicle to be safely stopped on Wellington Road 14 and Side Road 10, Wellington North Township. The lone male was arrested and he was taken to a local hospital by police as a precaution.
During the incident, the suspect vehicle made contact with two police vehicles causing moderate damage to both cruisers. No officers were injured.
Patrick FORESTELL age 49 from Guelph is charged with;
Dangerous Driving- Criminal Code (C.C.)
Impaired Driving- C.C.
Over 80- C.C.
Flight from Police- C.C.
Resist Arrest- C.C.
Drive While Under Suspension- Highway Traffic Act
He is scheduled to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on November 18, 2014 to answer the charges.
