Pair Caught Shoplifting

The Chatham-Kent police have arrested a man following a theft complaint in Chatham yesterday afternoon.

Shortly before 1:00 p.m. police responded to a shoplifting incident at Walmart on St. Clair Street. An employee observed two men enter the store and walk to the cologne isle. The men removed approximately $250 worth of cologne from the shelf and concealed the items on their person. They exited the store without making any attempt to pay for the merchandise.

The men were approached outside by an employee. The 29-year-old Chatham man was cooperative and turned over the stolen items. He has been charged with theft under $5000 and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police continue to search for the 57-year-old Chatham man who fled on foot.
