Ottawa Police lay charges in swarming

(Ottawa) – The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to a swarming.

On August 19, 2013, at approximately 11:00 pm, a group of about 15 youths had congregated at a school along Glenfern Avenue. At that time, 5-7 suspects approached. They were wearing bandanas and were carrying various weapons, such as bike chains, crowbars, and sticks. Four people were robbed of varying personal property. Two of the victims were assaulted, resulting in minor injuries.

On September 18, 2013, one suspect was arrested in connection to this investigation. Sylvain MBUYAMBA, age 18 of Ottawa, has been charged with the following offences:

* Robbery with an Offensive Weapon (four counts)
* Possession of Weapon Dangerous
* Wearing a Disguise
* Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
* Breach of Recognizance (three counts)

Mr. Mbuyamba appears in court again on September, 20, 2013.

The investigation continues in this matter.
