(Ottawa, ON) – The Canada Day Week Enforcement Initiative was launched on June 26, 2015 and ended on July 1 2015. During the week, officers focused on four main driving behaviours that puts all road users at risk. These are: driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs; fail to properly wear seat belt; driving while distracted; and aggressive driving.
The Ottawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested four motorists for alcohol related driving offences over the week.
Charged are:
Jennifer RAYSON, 32 of Ottawa
Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol; and
Driving While Ability Impaired.
Hilder LANGWA, 48 of Ottawa
Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol; and
Driving While Ability Impaired.
Nicholas ANTAL, 22 of Ottawa
Operating a Motor Vehicle with Over 80 mgs of Alcohol; and
Driving While Ability Impaired.
David D’ASCENZO, 33 of Ottawa (previously mentioned in July 2 media release)
Refuse to Provide Sample;
Driving While Ability Impaired; and
Driving while under suspension.
In addition, 1927 Provincial Offence Notices were issued during the initiative across Eastern Ontario patrolled by the OPP.
The following is a breakdown of the Provincial Offence Notices issued by the Ottawa OPP during the campaign:
20 Charges – Speeding;
10 Charges –Fail to properly wear seat belt;
9 Charges – Distracted Driving;
21 Charges – Hazardous moving violations;
2 Charges – Driving while under suspension; and
4 Charges – Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
Reminder
The OPP is asking that if you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired by alcohol or other drugs and intends on driving, strongly discourage them from driving and call 9-1-1 if they insist.
