Ottawa Man Turns Himself into OPP

(Kemptville, ON.) – Grenville County Ontario Provincial Police have charged an Ottawa man with several firearm offences.

At 9:30 p.m. on August 24th, police were patrolling the Ferguson Forestry Centre in Kemptville when a suspicious vehicle was observed. The officer activated the lights and siren in an attempt to pull over the Dodge Charger. The driver refused to stop and was followed by police.

A short time later, the vehicle stopped. The driver exited from the vehicle and ran into the bush with a firearm. Two passengers remained in the vehicle.

The OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP Canine Unit attended the scene and located a shotgun and ammunition meters from the vehicle. The driver was not located.

On August 25th, the driver turned himself into police. Joshua Goodwin age 20 of Ottawa is charged with:

Careless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition

Unauthorized possession of a firearm

Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle

Flight while pursued by a peace officer

Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Kemptville Ontario Court of Justice on October 5th, 2016.
