(Ottawa) — On May 23, 2014, a 51 year-old Ottawa man, John McGee, was arrested by the Central District Neigborhood Officers for Thefts From Vehicle in the vicinity of Preston / Somerset / Cambridge / Gladstone. It is alleged that he used a tool to break car windows and take their contents.

John McGee appeared in (show cause) court on May 24, 2014. He was remanded into custody and will appear by way of video conference on May 27, at 1:30 p.m., Courtroom #5.

The subsequent investigation yielded more charges linked to other incidents.

The charges linked to incidents between May 14 and May 23, 2014 are:

Mischief, 4 counts

Possession of Property, 1 count

Attempted Theft, 1 count

Breach of Undertaking, 3 counts

Failure to Comply with Probation Order, 3 counts

Although video and citizens calling police help solve these investigations, prevention is a key element to help prevent this type of crime. Especially with the race week-end, every car owner and user is asked not to leave any valuables in their vehicles – cars are not a safe for wallets, GPS devices, laptops, cell phones, coins, purses or bags.
