(WEST PARRY SOUND, ON) – On October 2, 2014 the West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was conducting radar enforcement on Highway 400 in Carling Township. At approximately 10:19 p.m., a northbound black Ford truck was observed travelling at a high rate of speed and subsequently a traffic stop was conducted. As a result of police investigation marihuana and a loaded hand-gun were seized.
Driver, Justin LAFOREST, 31 years of age from London, Ontario was arrested and has been charged with:
Two (2) traffic offences including: Speeding contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA)
Three (3) drug offences including: Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the purpose of trafficking as per the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).
Five (5) offences related to the possession of a loaded firearm including: Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
Passenger, Janny LAFOREST, 62 years of age from London, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
Three (3) drug charges including Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the purpose of trafficking as per the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).
2. Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm as per the Criminal Code of Canada (CC).
The two accused were held in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound for a bail hearing.
