(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) -On November 7, 2013 at approximately 7:11 a.m. officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a house fire on Alvar Road, in the former Carden Township.
The Ontario Fire Marshall and Technical Safety Standards Association have attended the scene. Initial investigation indicates that an explosion in the residence subsequently led to the fire. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
The structure is considered a collapse risk so the investigation will require several days. The OPP will remain on scene during this time.
At the time of the fire five adult family members were in the home. Of the three that were transported to a local hospital two were then transported via ambulance to a Toronto area hospital. Transported were a 22 year old female with potentially life threatening injuries and a male party with serious injuries.
