(Tay Township, On)- A member of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) had an unusual Saturday night shift as he was dispatched to 2 seperate impaired driving complaints in Tay Township and both resulted in impaired driving charges.
At around 8:00pm on October 12, 2013 a motorist on Highway 12 in Tay Township contacted the OPP Communications Centre after observing an erratic driver. The officer located the vehicle on Highway 12 using the complaintants information.
An investigation into the drivers sobriety was initiated which resulted in Michelle BUTTINEAU 48 years of Midland along with her vehicle being removed from the roadway.
The same officer was dispatched to another erratic driving complaint at 4:00am October 13, 2013 along the West Service Road in Tay Township by a motorist who contacted the OPP Communications Centre.
The officer located the vehicle in a nearby parking lot using the description provided by the caller and upon speaking with the male driver entered into an investigation of the drivers sobriety.
As a result of that investigation Evan MARSDEN 23 years of Tay Township along with his vehicle was removed from the roadway.
Both drivers were charged with Impaired Driving section 253 (a) and Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol section 253 (b) both sections contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. Both drivers had their drivers licences suspended for 90 days under the Administrative Drivers Licence System (ADLS) and their vehicles were towed and impounded for 7 days.
Both BUTTINEAU and MARSDEN were released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a future date.
