OPP Offer Driving Tips Due To Numerous Collisions

(PERTH COUNTY, ON) – The Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is reminding drivers that the changing weather throughout the day has created icy road sections across the county.

Periods of rain, turning to ice and snow have contributed to hazardous road conditions. As a result, multiple motor vehicle collisions have been reported. Wet or icy road conditions will add to the time and distance required to stop your vehicle safely. Leave a larger space between your vehicle and vehicles travelling ahead.

When travelling, consult local media for road closure information. Always carry an emergency kit, containing blankets, charged cell phone, flashlight, water, and food. Ensure that your vehicle is in proper working order. Maintain a minimum of a half tank of fuel whenever possible. Use headlights at all times to engage tail lights. Wear your seat belt.

Many motor vehicle collisions can be prevented by reducing speed and driving according to weather and road conditions.

Please do not contact the OPP or use 9-1-1 for road conditions. Road closures can be obtained through 511 or the Ministry of Transportation websites. To report concerning driving behaviour, pull over and call police at 1-888-310-1122 or 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency. Slow down, and arrive safely.
