(LAKE HURON) – – On June 8th, 2011 at 11:06 am, the South Bruce OPP received a call for assistance from a boater approximately 500 feet off shore from Bruce Power. Three people were on board the 21 foot Boston Whaler when it started taking on water.
The South Bruce OPP, Canadian Coast Guard and the South Bruce OPP Marine Unit responded to the call.
The South Bruce OPP’s HH Graham arrived on scene and safely loaded all 3 boaters aboard before their vessel sank.
Marine Unit officers Detective Constable Dave Hackney and Provincial Constable Ken Roppel noted the boaters were all wearing life jackets.
South Bruce OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Bill Klym is taking this opportunity to send a reminder on boating safety, “All vessel operators need to be aware of their legal responsibilities and follow the safety rules each time they leave the dock. Having the proper safety equipment on board, and accessible, is what makes the difference between a rescue and a tragedyâ€.
