OPP ISSUES TWO THREE DAY SUSPENSIONS OVER WEEKEND

(CHATHAM-KENT, ON) In the early morning hours of April 26, 2014, and April 27, 2014, Chatham-Kent Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers issued two three day suspensions at two separate RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs.

Just after 12:00 a.m. on April 26, 2014, Chatham-Kent OPP officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 401 eastbound on/off ramps at Victoria Road. A Pontiac vehicle entered and stopped for the officers. While officers were speaking with the male driver, it was determined that he had been consuming alcoholic beverages. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension.

On April 27, 2014, just after 2:00 a.m., a Mazda vehicle entered a RIDE program at Highway 40 and Colborne Street. While Chatham-Kent OPP officers were speaking with the female driver, it was determined that she had been consuming alcoholic beverages. A roadside test was completed which resulted in a warn range suspension.

Both drivers were served with a three day driver’s licence suspension.

Chatham-Kent OPP would like to remind drivers that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving. If you consume alcoholic beverages, plan for a safe ride home by using a designated driver, a taxi or public transit to ensure that you and others sharing the road arrive safely.
