OPP INVESTIGATE STOLEN CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT & TRAILERS

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has been conducting investigations into thefts of construction equipment and trailers in the County during September and October, 2014.

Sometime overnight on September 24 & 25 unknown person(s) attended to a construction site on Purdy Road at Herley Road north of Colborne in Cramahe Township and stole a black and yellow Caterpillar 227 skid steer that was left on the side of the road for further work. On September 26, the owner of the skid steer noticed that a brown and orange Case 580 Super M front end loader / backhoe had been tampered with which appeared to have been an attempted to steal it. On October 2, 2014 the skid steer was located in a maple bush west of Hurley Road north of Highway 401.

On October 2, 2014 at about 10:14 am OPP received a report of a theft of a canteen trailer from the Roseneath Fair Grounds on County Road 45 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. The trailer has very distinct advertising in red and white lettering on it stating “candy apples and snow cones” which is the primary use for the trailer. This theft is believed to have occurred sometime between September 29 and October 2. The estimated value of this trailer is $8,000.

On October 2, 2014 at about 12:15 pm OPP received a report of a theft of a 1990 flatbed trailer stolen overnight between 2:00 pm on October 1 and 7:30 am on October 2. The trailer was stolen from a construction site near a property on Purdy Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. The trailer contained construction material, 2”x6” lumber and is described as having 2×4 side rails. The estimated value of this trailer is $8,000.

On October 7, 2014 at 5:56 pm OPP were notified of a theft of a U-Haul trailer sometime between mid-August and early October. The U-Haul is a 4×8 enclosed utility trailer with a Texas license plate attached to it. Initially the U-Haul staff thought it had been taken to an alternate location but when it did no turn up anywhere during this period; it was reported stolen to OPP.

Northumberland OPP detachment Scenes of Crime Officers (SOCO) and Street Response Team (SRT) members are continuing these investigations.
