OPP INVESTIGATE MULTI VEHICLE COLLISION

(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) -The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attended the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision on the weekend.

On November 23, 2013 at approximately 9:45 a.m. the OPP received a report of a multi vehicle collision at the intersection of Simcoe Street and Little Britain Road, within the City of Kawartha Lakes. The roadway in that area was closed for several hours while the investigation was conducted.

Initial investigation indicated that a vehicle being driven westbound on Little Britain Road was unable to stop, entered the intersection and struck a vehicle travelling northbound on Simcoe Street. Both vehicles then entered the southbound lane of Simcoe Street and were struck by a tractor trailer.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, Robert ASELSTYNE, 71 years of age, of Oshawa, was transported to a local hospital and then later transferred by ambulance to a Toronto area hospital with serious injuries. The passenger of this vehicle, Marjorie ASELSTYNE, 71 years of age of Oshawa, died as a result of the collision.

At the time of the collision there was blowing snow and the roads were icy.

The OPP utilized the services of its Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) to assist with this incident.
