(MATHESON, ON) – Members of the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment and the South Porcupine Forensic Identification Unit are working in conjunction with the Ministry of Labor in regards to a fatal mining accident which occurred at the Holt Mining Project which is an operation of St Andrews Gold Ltd.
The mine site is located approximately 60 kilometers east of Matheson on Highway
101, near the Quebec border.
The incident, which resulted in the loss of life to one man, occurred at approximately
5:00 p.m. this afternoon on surface.
The scene is currently held under the control of the Ontario Provincial Police.
The name of the deceased man is being withheld pending notifications to next of kin.
The Coroner’s Office has been notified of the event as well.
A post mortem examination will take place in the due course of the investigation.
