OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL COLLISION

(TRENT HILLS, ON) – On Thursday February 27, 2014 at approximately 2:10 pm Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles on County Road 30 in Trent Hills, Ontario.

Police attended to a crash on County Road 30 near 1st Line West in the Municipality of Trent Hills that sent two people to hospital after a southbound red 2005 Dodge Caravan collided head on with a northbound black 2014 Dodge Journey in whiteout snow conditions.

OPP, Northumberland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was on scene while members of the Trent Hills Fire Department (THFD) extricated a male and a female from both vehicles. OPP Central Region Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) was contacted to assist with the investigation. The lone male driver of the Dodge Journey was transferred to Kingston for treatment of serious injuries.

The lone female driver of the Dodge Caravan was identified as Diane LACAVERA, 67 from Warkworth, Ontario. She was pronounced deceased at Campbellford Memorial Hospital. A post mortem is being held today.

Drifting snow and poor visibility in the area caused Northumberland County to erect “Road Closed” barriers to traffic on County Road 30 while the OPP investigated the collision and for weather conditions to improve. Motorists were detoured as a matter of public and officer safety.

OPP are continuing this investigation.
