OPP INVESTIGATE FATAL COLLISION

(MATHESON) – The Matheson OPP is in the midst of completing its investigation into a two vehicle fatal collision that occurred yesterday morning on Hwy 101 in Stock Twp.

The OPP officers responded to the scene and located two heavily damaged vehicles:

– a 2011 Western Star Tractor Trailer unit that had been driven by a 57 year old Mount Elgin, Ontario, man

– a 2005 GMC pickup truck that had been driven by a 33 year old Porcupine,

Ontario, man.

Fire crews from Matheson attended the scene to suppress the post collision fire and extricate the injured drivers from their respective vehicles.

The driver of the pickup truck, Stephane GAUTHIER, 33, of Porcupine, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced as deceased by an area coroner.

Next of Kin notifications have been completed by the OPP.

OPP officers from Matheson and South Porcupine, working in conjunction with OPP Forensic Identification officers and OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, are investigating to determine the root cause of the collision.

Roads were bare and dry at the time of the collision.

Weather and visibility conditions were favorable as well.

The investigation is on-going at this time.
