OPP INVESTIGATE EARLY MORNING COLLISIONS

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – Northumberland Ontario Provincial (OPP) is already responding to early morning collisions on Thursday February 27, 20014 causing motorists travel delays again in Northumberland County. Nine (9) motor vehicle collisions have been reported since 3:00 pm yesterday to Northumberland OPP.

At 4:51 am OPP attended to a tractor trailer into the trees on westbound 401 west of Toronto Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. No injuries reported. Ministry of Transportation (MTO) crash trucks are on scene to assist with heavy tow removal.

At 6:51am OPP officers received a report of a jack-knifed tractor trailer at the exit ramp of the ON Route Service Centre in the Municipality of Port Hope. The collision occurred in such a way that it is blocking all vehicles from exiting the service centre. OPP at the scene report people already in the parking lot are using the eastbound entrance ramp as an exit with poses a further risk to those coming into the service centre. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution if having to attend the service centre until OPP can get the traffic moving out of the parking lot safely again. No injuries are reported. The eastbound 401 remains open at this time.

Shortly before 7:00 am, a tractor trailer is in the ditch just west of County Road 30 just north of Brighton. OPP are on scene and have determined there are no injuries and no damage. MTO crash trucks are attending at 9:00 am for safety reason to assist OPP. The westbound lane of 401 at this location will be closed temporarily while heavy tow removes the vehicle.

At 7:25 am OPP officers responded to a single vehicle roll over collision on County Road 28 north of Port Hope. The vehicle has struck a hydro pole. Port Hope Fire Department (PHFD) and Northumberland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) are also on scene to extract a female from the vehicle.

At 7:42 am OPP are attending to second rollover collision on County Road 30 near Industrial Park area in Campbellford. No indication of injuries however EMS is attending as a precaution.

OPP are asking again motorist to please be aware of the weather and to drive according to road conditions. Leave time to travel to your destination safely; slow down; be aware of other vehicles around you; leave enough space between the vehicles ahead of you. Drive safely.
