(BRIGHTON, ON) – On Wednesday October 8, 2014 Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were notified of a train collision involving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) near Boes Road, east of the Town of Brighton.
At approximately 4:22 am a westbound CN train collided with an ATV that was being operated by a 22 year old Brighton man who had got the ATV stuck on the track. He was attempting to remove it from the tracks and managed to avoid being struck by the train. The train’s engineer had seen the vehicle ahead from a distance but was unable to avoid the collision. The man was located some distance in the ditch from the ATV and received minor, non-life threatening injuries from his narrow escape and was transported to hospital by Northumberland Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
The Prince Edward Street crossing in Brighton was closed for approximately two hours and has since re-opened
Nicholas McGRATH, ages 22 from Brighton, Ontario has been charged with impaired care and control of a motor vehicle and refuse breath tests under the Criminal Code and trespassing under the Trespass to Property Act.
Northumberland OPP would like to remind the public that railroad tracks are private property and owned by the rail companies. People are subject to be charged accordingly if found trespassing or committing other offences.
