OPP IN THE AIR AND ON THE GROUND

(OXFORD COUNTY, ON.) – Members with the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.), Highway Safety division and the O.P.P. Aircraft Enforcement Unit conducted aerial surveillance for speed enforcement on Highway 401 in Oxford County over the weekend.

During the enforcement over the weekend, the O.P.P stopped a total of 108 vehicles. 107 of the vehicles were all stopped for speeding and 1 was stopped for following too close. There were 5 drivers charged with Stunt Driving with the fastest speed being 169km/h.

The 5 vehicles have been impounded for the prescribed 7-day period and his driver’s licenses are suspended for 7 days.

Drivers who engage in high risk driving behavior put everyone at risk. Speeding makes it more difficult for drivers to react to changes, stop suddenly and control a vehicle. In the case of a collision, the higher the speed the more severe the collision and the more likely that serious injuries or death will occur.

O.P.P. would like to remind the motoring public to manage their time and respect all the rules of the road when travelling.
