(LEEDS, ON.) -Leeds OPP is stressing safety after responding to a lost hiker off of Marble Rock Road in Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township.
On December 4, 2017 at about 5:00 P.M Leeds and the Thousand Islands OPP were alerted to a hiker who had lost her way. Luckily the 51 year old Gananoque female had a cell phone with her and was able to contact police for help. Leeds OPP officers, after a 5 km walk, located her safe and unharmed on the trails and escorted her back to her vehicle.
Leeds OPP Detachment Commander Inspector Mike Francis reminds hikers that it’s important to always plan your route, bring maps, GPS and be prepared for adverse weather.
Other tips include:
– Leaving information about your whereabouts on the dash of your car, having a charged cell phone, food, water and medical supplies.
-Always let someone know where you are going and when you think you’ll be back.
-Wear proper clothing and footwear, adding that attempting to navigate the trails in flip flops would be a very poor decision.
